Malena Johnson has been awarded the 2025 Historical Society of Stillwater Township scholarship. The award was created to recognize a graduating senior who has excelled in the study of history. Melena was selected by the staff of KRHS and the scholarship of $500 was presented at KRHS Senior Awards program on Tuesday, June 3.
Malena has been interested in history since elementary school and that interest intensified in High School when she took AP History and, as she recalls, wrote down everything her teacher said. Her next revelation was a trip to Italy in which she was able to see and understand the world of ancient Rome. Coupled with her love of reading and completion of Julius Caesar in English class, her destiny to study Greek and Roman history was sealed.
Her next stop is the University of Chicago where she will enroll in the Classics Department and delve deeper into centuries past. Her mind is also on the future where she plans to become a criminal defense attorney. While at KRHS, Malena participated in mock trials and discovered a true passion for that process. As the ancient Romans would have said, we wish Malena “Optimus Fortuna” in her academic and professional pursuits.
