The Historical Society of Stillwater Township

Did you know that it takes the average reader about 30 minutes to read the United States Constitution?

This short but powerful document was adopted by the American Congress of the Confederation on September 17th, 1787.  A Congressional resolution to commemorate this event was signed by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956 and in 2002 President George W Bush declared Constitution Week to run each year from September 17th-23rd.

The Historical Society of Stillwater Township will be offering free copies of the Constitution at the Academy on Sunday, September 18th and Sunday, September 25th between 2 and 4 PM.  Please stop by and pick up a copy.

Additionally, The Sussex County Library Main Branch will be hosting a special program titled “A Citizen’s Guide to the Constitution” to be presented by attorney Catherine Brown on Saturday, September 17th from 11:30am -12:30pm. Brown will explore the meaning of liberty, the form of government that it requires, and the functionality and durability of the Constitution’s design in our world day.  You can go to the library website to register.  Registration begins September 3 and seating is limited.
