15/04 :  HSST Prepares for Sunday Museum Openings

Members of the Historical Society of Stillwater Township were treated to a private tour of the Society’s museum on Thursday evening, April 14, 2011. The purpose of the tour was to prepare the members to give visitor tours during the museum’s Sunday openings, which will begin on June 5, 2011.

Elsie Roof, longtime Stillwater resident and charter member of the Society, led the tour supported by Lawrence Earl, Peggy Streeter, Carolyn Celli and Dennis Pegg. Not only did members get a refresher course on the collection and the museum building which houses it, but those presenting shared their memories of Stillwater and the early years of the Society. The museum’s collection includes military artifacts from the Revolutionary War and beyond, vintage farm and cooking implements, Native American artifacts, a genealogy and reference library and more.

“The Society’s collection is a significant resource for our community and for the public at large,” said Bob Grabowsky, President of the Historical Society. “Our goal is to improve visitor experience at the museum and this evening was a step toward achieving that goal.”

The Historical Society’s museum will be open on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. from June 5 through August 28, 2011. Tours are available throughout the year by appointment.
