24/04 :  Cleanup day - a "wet" success!

Despite the rainy weekend, Stillwater clean-up day was a success! Cleanup day is coordinated by the Stillwater Township Recreation Commission and is held each year on or around "Earth Day". Everyone in the town is invited to participate and local non-profit groups can earn $300 through the Clean Communities Grant Fund when they participate in force. This years event was scheduled for Saturday April 22nd but the rain was relentless so the rain date of Sunday April 23rd was chosen. The weather held off just enough on Sunday to allow 218 people to participate which was 7 more people than last year. This year 27 organizations were invited to participate and 18 ended up participating despite the chilly rainy day. Gale Danko, the Rec. Comm. Chairperson, estimates that 22 to 24 miles of roads where cleaned up which was a little less than last year. By days end 1020 pounds of garbage, 175 pounds of aluminum, 550 pounds of recyclable material and 5 tires where collected.
