THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF STILLWATER WELCOMES AND INVITES YOU TO BECOME A MEMBER AND/OR A PATRON

A group of Residents, who recognize and appreciate the Historic value of our Township, invite you to join the Stillwater Historical Society. We are proud that Stillwater’s history is intrinsic to the History of Sussex County and of Northern New Jersey. Becoming a member will enable you to participate in the magnificent effort to conserve and preserve our unique and precious heritage.

Look around you. See some of the original homes and the Grist Mill that date back to the beginnings of our Democracy. See the quiet roads and the quaint businesses and stores. Look at the fields that grew grain to feed the earliest farmer/settlers. Take a stroll to the Stillwater Cemetery, experience the peace and tranquility that surrounds the graves of once prominent citizens of Stillwater.

View the waters of our streams and river that gave Stillwater its name and powered the Grist Mill. As you traverse our roads, notice the barns that were built up to 200 years ago. See the winding roads and many lakes in valleys formed in this rolling hill country whose mountains are claimed to have existed but eroded millions of years ago leaving it as a most scenic location.

Visit the Stillwater museum that contains Indian and other artifacts that were derived from this area including Civil War memorabilia. The museum in years gone by was used as a school and later as the Mary W. Dixon Library that was preserved through the largess of former residents, Mr. & Mrs. Amos F. and Mary W. Dixon.
